Is Alfalfa Hay safe for Guinea Pigs?

77

Safe!

1-2 times a week

Guinea pigs should not be fed excessive amounts of alfalfa hay due to its high calcium and protein content. This can be harmful to adult non-pregnant guinea pigs and should be avoided in pigs with kidney disease or urinary tract issues. While alfalfa hay can be given as an occasional treat, it should not make up the majority of a guinea pig’s diet.
